Reduce Risk-Waterborne Pathogens
There’s a constant threat of biological growth in your cooling tower. It’s important to properly maintain and clean your tower to substantially reduce this risk. Not properly caring for your tower leads to enhanced levels of pathogens, including fatal Legionella.
There’s a myth that treating the Legionella can be costly. Legionella is costly when overlooked, not to mention deadly. Make sure you’re testing and treating your tower water for Legionella.
Some tips to reducing the risk of waterborne pathogens are making sure you have adequate drift eliminators, maintaining towers according to manufacturer’s recommendations and keeping adequate maintenance records. If your tower requires seasonal shutdown, sanitize and treat your equipment prior to shutdown and again before startup.
Chemicals are commonly used to subdue pathogens, but they also harbor pathogens by fouling the water quality. Talk to your water treatment provider about chemical-free options that can both adequately control pathogens and raise the water quality.
